چکیده

Background and Objective: To evaluate the Inner-retinal cells survival after low duration laser treatment (50ms duration) measured by electroretinogram in patient with diabetic retinopathy Methods: Twenty-two eyes with severe nonproliferative diabetic retinopathy or proliferative diabetic retinopathy that underwent three panretinal photocoagulation treatments were prospectively followed. The patients were divided into two groups involving the standard laser or low-duration laser treatment. Survival of the inner retina was assessed using a full-field electroretinography involving changes in amplitude and implicit times of the b-wave rod response. Results: There was no significant change in amplitude in eyes treated with the low-duration laser (-14.29±30.479 μV; p=0.172), but there was a significant change in eyes treated with the standard laser (-45.65±28.189 μV; p=0.001). There was no significant change in implicit times in each group (p=0.177 and p=0.685, respectively). The change in amplitude in eyes treated with the low-duration laser was significantly lower than in eyes treated with the standard laser (-71.43±25.408 versus 8.18±86.432, respectively; p=0.018). Conclusions: Treatment with the low-duration laser is effective in maintaining the survival of inner retinal cells.

Investigating the frequency characteristics of the electroretinogram signal in patients with central retinal vein occlusion

Background: Central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO) is the second most common retinal vascular disorder after diabetic retinopathy. In this study, we tried to examine the potentials of time-frequency methods for differentiating the eyes with CRVO. Materials and methods: Twenty patients with unilateral CRVO were included in this study. Their contralateral normal eyes were considered as the control...

Recovery of the electroretinogram in rabbits after argon laser photocoagulation.

Argon laser is widely used to coagulate the diabetic retina in order to inhibit the proliferative stage of diabetic retinopathy. Ten pigmented rabbits underwent retinal photocoagulation with argon laser. Retinal function was assessed electroretinographically before treatment and at different time intervals after treatment. The ERG responses measured 4-7 days after treatment were reduced in ampl...

Vision change after sheet transplant of fetal retina with retinal pigment epithelium to a patient with retinitis pigmentosa.

OBJECTIVE To report the subjective and objective improvement in vision in a patient with autosomal dominant retinitis pigmentosa after transplantation of a sheet of fetal neural retina together with its retinal pigment epithelium. DESIGN A sheet of fetal neural retina with its retinal pigment epithelium was transplanted into the subretinal space under the fovea unilaterally in a patient with ...

Addition of primary care-based retinal imaging technology to an existing eye care professional referral program increased the rate of surveillance and treatment of diabetic retinopathy.

OBJECTIVE Digital retinal imaging is a relatively new technology that can be used to assess patients for diabetic retinopathy. We evaluated the impact of adding a primary care-based retinal imaging technology to an existing eye care professional referral process on the rate of surveillance and treatment of diabetic retinopathy in a large, well-defined patient population over a 5-year period. ...
